Many movies have been made, and many books have been written about them, but no knowledge gleaned from screens or books will prepare you for a face-to-face encounter with these enormous beasts.

The Dino Park Algar amusement park in Spain, located near Benidorm and a short distance from Alicante, allows you to see these monstrous creatures in their natural environment. A visit to the park left a great impression on me, and just imagine the excitement of the children for whom this park was created.

We arrived early in the morning, around 10 o’clock, when the park opens. I advise you to also wake up early and arrive before the crowds at the entrance, avoiding standing in a long queue.

Dino Park Algar, with its dinosaurs, was created with both younger and older children in mind, although adults can also have a great time there, as I am a living example.

The park’s dinosaur guides are two creatures, Fino Dino and Dina Mina, siblings of friendly dinosaurs who accompany children throughout their stay in the park. Before coming, I recommend watching a film with the kids featuring these characters. It will prepare the youngest for what awaits them at Dino Park Algar.

The park authorities have prepared several attractions for children of all ages. So, there are not only life-sized dinosaur models. Also their skeletons buried in the sand, waiting for curious little ones to find and excavate them. There are dinosaur nests full of eggs from which young ones hatch, earth pits that served as bedrooms for the giant reptiles, and the rest of the prehistoric world.

At Dino Park Algar, various playgrounds and entertainment areas have been created for the youngest children. They can enjoy various swings and slides, obstacle courses that thematically match the park’s decor, and tons of sand brought in from nearby beaches. Trust me, it’s a real paradise for kids that will keep them entertained for hours.

A major attraction for older guests is the palaeontological playground, where you have to discover and identify dinosaur bones. Fossils buried in the sand evoke great excitement and are a fantastic educational activity.

In the park, there’s a spot for a small lake, or rather a shallow pond, where you can swim. There’s also a picnic area, so I recommend bringing a basket with food. While you can buy food on-site, nothing beats homemade dishes and snacks. Please keep in mind plenty of water and drinks; during the heat, it gets scorching in the park, just like in prehistoric times. Remember, we’re on the Costa Blanca, where the sun shines almost every day.

If you fancy a change, you can visit the 3D cinema. You’ll watch there fascinatingly prepared movies and presentations about dinosaurs and the world they lived in. Right next door is a botanical garden with incredible plants. I couldn’t tear myself away from the succulent cacti, which I love. Oh, in the garden, you can see the oldest plant on Earth; Wollemia nobilis.

Remember that Dino Park Algar is also an educational park. You’ll find a pavilion with items related to the prehistoric theme and a wealth of information and curiosities about the world of dinosaurs. This place is called the Journey to the Earth’s Past and will transport you millions of years into the past. In several display cases, you’ll find tiny dinosaur bones, teeth, claws, as well as fossils of ancient insects and plants. I find this place very intriguing, and the knowledge gathered here will help you understand how the world functioned when mighty predators ruled.

Of course, the park’s main attraction is the huge robotic dinosaurs. Some of them move, stirring great excitement among the youngest visitors. Various sounds also add to the impressive atmosphere of being in a prehistoric world. I also enjoyed the small streams flowing into the lake and the waterfall, which helps cool the skin during the hottest times of the day.

In conclusion, I must admit that I thoroughly enjoyed Dino Park Algar. The children who were with us still discuss the giant dinosaurs they saw. That’s why I highly recommend a visit to this extraordinary place, which is not just an amusement park, but also a mine of knowledge about the prehistory of the Earth.

• There is a large and free car park in front of the park.
• Exploring the park generally takes about two hours, but only if you don’t stop at each attraction. Our visit lasted almost the entire day.
• There are picnic areas and numerous cafeterias and food stalls in the park.
